“With a deadline looming and Christmas fast approaching, I needed some peace and quiet, preferably with a beautiful view in a cosy little hideaway, to inspire me to write my chapter. Wayward cottage is well-equipped and was perfect in every way, from the twinkly fairly lights above the comfortable bed, to the kind and friendly hosts. I was lucky to experience the views in sunny weather (great spot to watch the sun rise and set, plus very dark skies which are perfect for star-gazing), I was also there during an icy storm where the wind howled wildly all day and night, but I was able to stay warm and toasty in front of the wood burner pretending I was Emily Brontë (with a lap top instead of a quill!) An extra bonus was looking out onto the horses and hearing Nic and Bern talk about the farm and the obvious Love they share for their animals and the surrounding countryside. The Shepherd Huts also look exciting for a bit of Glamping. Thank you so much for everything. Karen  "

“ Wonderful. We will be back!  This was a simply wonderful place to stay. The accommodation was excellent, beautiful setting and the welcome friendly and warm. The freshly-laid eggs were a great touch. Circumstances meant we couldn't take full advantage this time, but we will definitely be back. Oh...and we learned how to talk to horses! "

“ Wayward Cottage is not wayward at all! It is small but very orderly and clean with all the basics for any traveller. Thanks for having us Bern and Nic. "

“A lovely few days. The cottage and location were ideal and our hosts couldn't do enough for us.  The location was good. Ideal for walking. The Cottage was lovely. Very clean and cosy . Plenty of room although it was only for two people and and the views were fantastic. Our hosts were very friendly and were helpful in regarding places to eat, visit and walks etc. We had taken our dog with us and there was a field fenced off where you could exercise dogs without being worried about them running off. Thankyou for a lovely few days  "

“ Lovely quiet break in a beautiful farm cottage.  Nic & Bern were around to welcome me upon arrival. The cottage was beautiful and the kitchen was equipped with everything I needed to cook for myself in the evenings. I didn't try out the log burner but I imagine that would have made it even cosier. Wifi limit was plentiful for my usage. It's a good base for exploring Staffordshire/Derbyshire, and as a solo female traveller I felt safe. The nearest town was about a 20 minute drive away if I needed to go to a supermarket for supplies.   "

“ Absolutely delightful x  Tranquil setting, spacious cottage, seating area to the front and rear, both with stunning views, well equipped, good mobile signal (rare in this neck of the woods!) Helpful, welcoming hosts, just follow their directions then relax!  "

“Nic + Bern were perfect hosts. Its a lovely secluded area with fantastic views of the manifold valley. Their animals, horses sheep + chickens are all very friendly. All needs catered for in the cottage, we had a lovely time. The two dogs loved it too. (Garden is secure) would definitely recommend . "

“ We had a lovely stay. Prosseco in the fridge when we arrived. The house was lovely, peaceful and private. Beautiful view out the back. We love the Manifold valley, Leek (great interesting, historical walk around Leek we got from the tourist info - especially the church) and Stafforshire and will be visiting again. The books in the cottage with mapped walks of the Peaks were very helpful as were Bern's suggestions of where to visit. We enjoyed the local walk (info left in the cottage as a map and directions) for guests to do if they wished. The instructions in the folder were very clear and helpful too. Very warm, snug cottage even on the rainiest of days. We loved their dogs, horses, sheep and chickens wandering about - Thanks. "

“  Fantastic cosy cottage

A very warm welcome from the owners nothing being any bother. The cottage itself is well equipped and very comfortable. There is pleasant enclosed seating area front and rear of the building which is great if like us you have dogs. The views from one of these areas are fantastic. The location itself is very quiet however you are not far from all the Peak District has to offer. There are a number of country pubs are within a short drive and larger stores in the local town of Leek We loved it, our week flew by. . "

Kayleigh - June 2018

“ This was a lovely little cottage with beautiful views across the countryside. Very kind and accommodating hosts. Be prepared for being secluded - the nearest convenience store we found was a 20 minute drive away down slow narrow country lanes. But don't let this put you off - the seclusion means the countryside is vast and unspoiled, with miles of romantic meanderings to be had. Be sure to check out Buxton, Matlock, the Heights of Abraham, and a pub we found called "the Cheshire cheese" in Longnor that does a pork and apple burger to die for. "

“ Brilliant hospitality. Friendly hosts. Wonderful views. Very helpful "

“ Cute cottage attached to main homestead on quiet farm with easy access to nearby villages. Nic and Bern were lovely no-fuss hosts and their recommendations for the area, plus lots of books in the cottage, were valuable for our 3 night stay in the District. Would absolutely stay again. "

“ The cottage is gorgeous and has stunning views, it is so peaceful, I wanted a very quiet time and I got it! Fabulous location for walking, cycling and resting! They are wonderful hosts too. I highly recommend it and I looked at their 2 Shepherd's huts which are gorgeous, so I might stay in one of them when I go back! ”

“ We stayed for a week at Wayward Cottage and, despite the weather being against us for some of the time, were cosy and comfortable in the cottage, due to the great facilities and kindness of our hosts. It's a beautiful location and we enjoyed the company of the patient horses, friendly chickens, cute Ouessant sheep and fleeting glimpses of Scout the Pup! Thank you Bern and Nic. ”

Jo - April 2018

“ We had such a wonderful time at the Wayward Cottage. Nic and Bern were lovely hosts and Grindon is a totally idyllic little spot. It's a perfect place to wile away a few days. Thanks so much for having us. ”

Edwina and John Paul - March 2018

“ We loved getting away from the hubbub for a few days and staying in Wayward Cottage. We were able to walk off the door step. We chose to self cater the entire weekend and had all the necessary utensils to do this. It was a treat to enjoy the woodburner each evening. ”

Nikki - March 2018

“ Beautiful accommodation and surroundings. Great place to stay to explore the Peak District or have a quiet get away. Host were friendly and helpful. ”

Nellie and Rick - March 2018

“ Remote, quiet, perfect, warm, cosy, clean. Hosts so welcoming. Questions asked before our visit were answered in full and promptly which really aided our logistics. Nic & Bern even offered to drive us to Leek when a bout of the flu rendered us unable to cycle as intended. Most thoughtful. They even took delivery of our supermarket order ready for our arrival. We would recommend this Cottage to anyone who wants to escape from it all! ”
