“ Doris the Shepherd's Hut is a really fun little space surrounded by beautiful countryside. Our 5 yr old son loved sleeping on the top bed and feeding Bern's crazy sheep! A perfect getaway with friendly, accomodating hosts. ”

“ We stayed for a week at Wayward Cottage and, despite the weather being against us for some of the time, were cosy and comfortable in the cottage, due to the great facilities and kindness of our hosts. It's a beautiful location and we enjoyed the company of the patient horses, friendly chickens, cute Ouessant sheep and fleeting glimpses of Scout the Pup! Thank you Bern and Nic. ”

Lizzi and Mike - April 2018

“ We had such a wonderful time at the Wayward Cottage. Nic and Bern were lovely hosts and Grindon is a totally idyllic little spot. It's a perfect place to wile away a few days. Thanks so much for having us. ”

Edwina and John Paul - March 2018

“ We loved getting away from the hubbub for a few days and staying in Wayward Cottage. We were able to walk off the door step. We chose to self cater the entire weekend and had all the necessary utensils to do this. It was a treat to enjoy the woodburner each evening. ”

Nikki - March 2018

“ Beautiful accommodation and surroundings. Great place to stay to explore the Peak District or have a quiet get away. Host were friendly and helpful. ”

Nellie and Rick - March 2018

“ Remote, quiet, perfect, warm, cosy, clean. Hosts so welcoming. Questions asked before our visit were answered in full and promptly which really aided our logistics. Nic & Bern even offered to drive us to Leek when a bout of the flu rendered us unable to cycle as intended. Most thoughtful. They even took delivery of our supermarket order ready for our arrival. We would recommend this Cottage to anyone who wants to escape from it all! ”

Laura - March 2018

“ We were planning to stay here for 3 nights originally. The place was ideal for what we needed and lots of great info about the local area and walks is provided. We actually had to stay for an extra night as the weather took a turn for the worse and we got snowed in! Nic and Bern were amazing and let us stay the night free of charge and even offered us a pizza as we were running low on supplies! Superb hosts and lovely little place! Also super cute dog! ”

Damien and Kelly - February 2018

“ We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your lovely cottage and would highly recommend to our family and friends. We were looking for a peaceful, relaxing and scenic break away, and found that at your cottage. One of the highlights of our stay was feeding your sheep, you wouldn't have the same experience at a petting farm. Mongo and co were adorable. You were very helpful in advising us where to hike and places to visit. We'll be visiting again in the future. ”

“ Wayward cottage is literally 10/10 for absolutely everything. The cottage and its location is amazing! Bern and Nic are such gracious, knowledgeable, friendly hosts. Nothin was too much trouble for them. We have had such a picturesque, relaxed few days away. We can not recommend this place enough, we will be back. Such a bonus that it's dog friendly, but make sure that you bring your dogs bed with you, and your slippers, as it's tiled throughout, so the floor can get chilly. ”

Katie and family - January 2018
“Lovely little cottage, fantastic views and really friendly hosts. Bern was kind enough to introduce us to his horses and miniature sheep. Great location for absolute peace and quiet. ”

Tom and Jane - January 2018
“ Fantastic accommodation in the Peak District (the log burner is a nice touch in the winter). Received a very warm welcome from the hosts who ensured we had a good experience! No complaints - I would definitely return - 5* Thanks Nic & Bern! ”

“ We loved our stay at Wayward Cottage. Bern and Nic were very friendly and helpful. The cottage was comfortable and well equipped. It's a great location for getting away from it all - lovely views. There is plenty to explore near by - we enjoyed some lovely walks - but it's also a nice place to just relax. Getting to feed the sheep was a definite bonus - they are little beauties!. ”

Sarah - December 2017
“ Thank you for a wonderfully relaxing few days. The cottage was perfect-everything I needed, warm and cosy. I hope to return soon!. ”

Libby and sister - December 2017
“ The cottage at Bern and Nic's place is lovely. It is very cosy and equipped with everything you need to create a home away from home. The views of the surrounding areas are fantastic (we had the extra bonus of being there when it snowed). Both Bern and Nic are wonderful hosts - they were very welcoming and were happy to provide suggestions and tips for places to visit in the area. ”

" Slightly chilly! I wish we brought slippers, but otherwise no downsides, at all, truly a lovely lovely stay with great hosts, Bern in particular was so friendly and helpful, thank you so much ☺️ "

Jill and Jon - November 2017
"The cottage and location are absolutely gorgeous! We chose a cottage without carpet because of taking our dog but were worried it might be chilly on the feet. There was no need to worry.... were so cozy, even though it was very cold outside! Comfy bed and great facilities....we didn't want to leave! The hosts are so friendly and welcoming and although they also respect your privacy, they are very happy to chat when you want to and tell you all about their horses and adorable rare-breed sheep. We only had three nights, so are keen to return and continue exploring the area, as there is so much to do and see. The cottage is very dog friendly, with enclosed front and back garden, in fact the whole area is and she was given several gravy bones and a sausage in the local shops and cafes. Looking forward to returning next year! "

" From the moment we arrived  we were made to feel welcome.  Very beautiful views; exceptionally peaceful; plenty of walks. Dogs loved running in the fields that Nic said we could use though we very aware of the sheep horses and chickens all about. The cottage was very comfortable and cosy:  loved it and we would go again "

Bruin and Carine - October 2017

Brian and Joy - October 2017
" A great place to stay for a really quiet and relaxing long weekend. Easy to find following the instructions from Bern and Nic, who proved to be welcoming hosts (we met them on the lane walking their dog and one of the horses). Well equipped cottage with full kitchen, separate lounge and bedroom with en-suite. Nice touches such as the wood burning stove and a basket of logs, and some fresh eggs from the wandering chickens. Very cute miniature sheep (and the slightly larger Mungo), well behaved horses and a slightly excitable dog all added to the country feel. Fabulous walking nearby, even direct from the front door. Definitely recommended. "

Stephen - October 2017
" Rained a lot of the time but never stopped us enjoying ourselves. Lovely accommodation with everything you could want. Great for relaxing and switching off. Will definitely be back again "

Brendan and Heidi - September 2017
" Wayward cottage is a perfect retreat for relaxing and chilling out! Bern and Nichola were perfect hosts and made us feel very welcome! The cottage is spotless and extremely comfortable. " The cottage was everything we had hoped for and more. The location and setting is beautiful peaceful and very relaxing. Around Grindon there are some very pretty and quiet walks, which was ideal as we took our dog with us. We visited the towns of Leek,Buxton, Ashbourne and drove through many lovely villages. The owners Bern and Nichola are extremely welcoming and are very happy to share their knowledge of the places to visit. Alanand Graham the local farmers are very friendly"
