We're very proud of our Shepherds Huts here at Lowes Farm, but what counts are other peoples' views.
So..Here's what our previous guests have said....

“ A truly magical, quaint Shepard's hut in a gorgeous location with everything you need to have a fab holiday, little touches like the cake and eggs just add to it. Nic & Bern are the perfect hosts, there when/if you need them with a wealth of knowledge but perfectly happy to leave you to get on with it. My daughter had a fantastic time feeding the sheep, petting them and holding the chickens. Nothing was to much trouble. I highly recommend and hope to return again. Thank you for a wonderful stay.  ”

“ Fantastic quiet romantic getaway.  Quiet out of the way romantic , this place is amazing what else is there to say if you want a romantic getaway in a beautiful setting this is for you  ”

Mark - June 2018

“ You have got to check out this place. It's really something special. We went for a weekend and loved every minute. From the complimentary eggs and cupcakes to meeting the miniature animals & horses. Everything was just so perfect. We even used the laminated maps that were provided & took a stroll through the countryside to the beautiful Red Lion pub on the Saturday. I really could not fault anything & the hosts Bern & Nic were the icing on the cake. Such lovely people ”

Georgina - June 2018

“ Great accomodation on a beautiful farm. The fire pit was great for having a BBQ in the summer sun and we loved sitting out by the fire enjoying the views of the countryside! ”

Paul and Chrissy - May 2018

“ We stayed in the Shirley Shepherd's hut for our stay, which was at the end of a wonderful honeymoon. We can't praise the accommodation and Nic and Bern as hosts highly enough. Both the accommodation and setting are beautiful. Even the heavy morning fog couldn't dampen our stay! We can't wait to come back for a longer stay. ”

Hannah and Sam - May 2018

“ Our stay in the Shirley Shepherd's Hut was a delight. We adored its uniqueness and stunning views across the hills. We enjoyed cooking up a feast every evening on the log burner's stove and relaxing outside on the bench with a glass of wine while admiring the peace and serenity of the Peak District. Nic and Bern were amazing hosts that made sure we knew everything we needed to about the hut and the local area. We went on a lovely local walk that Nic and Bern had written up and left in the barn. The Shepherd's Hut was a joy to come back to after a long day exploring all of the amazing sights both local and far away. It had everything we needed and a few additional surprises of homemade cupcakes and fresh eggs. This was the country break we needed away from the hustle and bustle of home and work. Thank you Nic and Bern! We hope to visit again in the future but in the mean time, we'll be sure to recommend Shirley to our friends and family. Hannah and Sam :) ”

Rebecca - May 2018

“We loved staying in Shirley. It was just the perfect space for us, with the hut so well designed with everything we could possibly need close to hand. The washroom facilities were also perfect, and spotlessly clean. The host's made every effort to make us feel at home, including leaving us fresh eggs and cake. We particularly loved meeting Mongo the sheep and friends - and were so glad we got to play with the lambs. Shirley is really in the most beautiful setting, we will definitely be back! ”

Hannah - May 2018

“ A real escape to the country. We stayed in the Doris hut which was decked out really nicely. The interior was lovely and well furnished and equipped. We were left lots of useful information about pubs, restaurants and local walks. The farm was gorgeous and it was great seeing the animals. The hosts were very friendly and helpful and left us brownies and fresh eggs! We had a great bank holiday weekend here :)

Emily- May 2018

“ We had a lovely two night stay blessed with lovely weather! I especially enjoyed feeding the miniature sheep and watching them from the window! The fresh eggs were also very much appreciated for our breakfasts. ”

Serena- May 2018

“Just stayed in the Shirley Shepard’s hut on Lowes Farm for the bank holiday weekend and it was fantastic. The owners, Nic & Bern, were so helpful and gave us so many great recommendations for the local area. The Shepard’s hut is wonderful. Small and cosy and with the most beautiful views, will definitely be coming back. ”

Brianna and family- April 2018

“ We had a spectacular stay in Doris, which is cozy and thoughtfully decorated. The Shepherd's Hut is akin to 'camping light', offering comfort, peacefulness, and style, while being in the countryside and providing the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors (and semi-'unplug' from a smartphone). My toddler absolutely loved it, too, which made the weekend even better! Bern and Nic were tremendously hospitable - and we all loved the farm animals. We would happily stay again!. ”

Brigid and family- April 2018

“ Doris the Shepherd's Hut is a really fun little space surrounded by beautiful countryside. Our 5 yr old son loved sleeping on the top bed and feeding Bern's crazy sheep! A perfect getaway with friendly, accomodating hosts. ”

Euan and Tracey- April 2018

“ If you want to disconnect from the world, Doris is an absolutely wonderful place to do it. She contains everything you need in a compact, stylish, comfortable and cosy package. The wood burner not only heats the space efficiently (we had to open the windows, even in a snowstorm!), but you can also cook on top of it. We had a Full English, a lamb curry and home-made soup, all prepared on the stovetop. There’s no electricity (the lights are solar-powered), but as long as your Kindle is charged beforehand or you have a paper book you’ll have no need of it. The dishwashing and bathroom facilities in the farmyard are clean and work well, and are well lit should you need to get to them after dark. Nic and Bern have even thought to provide a small trolley for you to transport bags and food from and to your car. As for the hosts, you could not hope to meet a more pleasant, helpful couple. Both are more than keen to offer assistance and advice on places to see, pubs to visit, and walks to undertake. Even the horses are friendly. In short, we’ll be back in a heartbeat when we need to get away from it all once more. Superb. ”

Yasmin and Jonathan- March 2018

“ Bern was a very helpful and informative host-upon arrival, he took the time to not only explain the available amenities, but also to show us around the land and make some great walk and pub recommendations. The Hut itself was beautiful and a great compromise between a cottage and camping-would highly recommend for a lovely romantic, outdoorsy getaway :) thank you!! ”

Anthony and Naomi- February 2018

“ Thank you so much for a wonderful retreat - we've had a fantastic time and we would LOVE to come again!!  You've made a wonderful cosy place and made us fell very welcome.  Hope to see you again before too long ! ”

Nicola and Jake- February 2018

“ We had a great stay in Doris! We arrived a bit late in the evening, but the farm and hut were easy to find, even in the dark. Doris is compact but has all the essentials you'll need - comfy bed/stove and kitchen utensils/toilet/cool box/bench outside to watch the sunset. Even though it was winter, as soon as the log burner gets going the hut is nice and cosy all night. Bern and Nic - thanks for being so welcoming and friendly. Feeding your excitable mini sheep was a highlight! We'd definitely recommend Doris, and hope to visit again soon! ”

Max and Hannah- December 2017

“This is a hidden gem. Bern and Nic are lovely hosts and have two fantastic shepherds huts that are extremely well equipped and perfect for a little cosy getaway in the countryside. Myself and my partner had never done anything like this before and didn't know what to expect... we were blown away by how cosy, warm, clean and well equipped the shepherds hut was, combined with the friendly welcome from the owners. Be sure to chat to Nic and Bern, they are full of useful information about places to visit and things to see during your stay. Highly recommended, we hope to return in the near future. "

David, Nikki and Erica - November 2017

“ What a fantastic weekend! It was so peaceful, and our hosts made us feel totally at home. As an added treat they let my little one feed the sheep. Our shepherds hut was gorgeous inside. We stayed in Doris, but had a peek in Shirley and that was equally beautiful inside. We were worried that the hut might be cold, be we need not, as once the wood burner got up to temperature it was very toasty inside. And, to top off the stay we got to see the stars as the night sky was so clear, the sunsets, and the sunrises. It is a magical place, we feel totally relaxed, and I am sure we will be visiting again soon. Thanks. "

Tom and Lucy - November 2017
“Bern’s place was really welcoming and homely. Was great for our 3 night short break away.. "

Patti - November 2017

“ We had the most incredible stay at Shirley! The pictures didn’t do the hut justice, it was so warm, cosy and romantic! The views from the hut were breathtaking- eating breakfast looking out over the  valleys and with horses in the forefront was an incredible sight! The hut itself was equipped with everything you need- hob rings, a little space within the log burner as a mini oven and a grill. The cool box kept our food for 2 nights and 2 breakfasts perfectly! And the showers were lovely and warm and a hairdryer was a nice touch! Nic and Bern were the best hosts- they provided lots of maps and notes on the local area, giving us lots of ideas! They also introduced us to all of the sheep for cuddles :) we went for a walk from the hut to Waterhouses and waterfall and had a few drinks in the local pub- a lovely walk and very easy to get around! On Sunday we took a short drive to Thorpe cloud! Next time we will hire bikes on the local trails- so much to do! Overall the perfect get away, the perfect hosts and just an incredible experience! Can’t wait to come back! "

Almu - October 2017

“ What a wonderful weekend at Doris! Nic and Bern have been very responsive on messages prior arrival and welcoming during our stay. They waited for us despite checking in quite late in the evening. The hut is located in a quiet location and it’s in a perfect spot for hiking in the Peak District. The hut is cosy, nicely decorated and it has everything you need for cooking. We’d definitely like to stay here again when coming back to the Peak District! Almu "

Anne, Thomas and Sophie - October 2017

“ Truly a wonderful adventure, a place to come when you are looking for quiet, for spending time in nature away from it all, for something a little different. Yet it is well located for access to many of the wonderful local Peak District attractions. My eight-year-old daughter loved engaging with the special breed of Ouessant sheep, the horses, reading and drawing in her very own special bunk space in the comfortable Shephard's hut, Doris. As expected, the Shephard's hut was small yet was remarkably well kitted out and beautifully finished, with comfortable beds, an eating and cooking space, an amazing stove that keeps the hut toasty, an eco-indoor toilet. We spent our time taking it easy, communing with nature, walking the closest round trip trail in the beautiful Manifold Valley. We stocked up and ate at home...highly recommended:). Bern and Nic were excellent hosts, available to answer any requests or questions no matter how big or small. Bern was a tremendous resource for all things local. We loved the whole experience and hope very much to have the opportunity to return sometime soon to chill out and explore the area further. Thank you both for creating such a wonderful gem in this little part of paradise. "

Georgia and Matt - October 2017

“ Thank you both Nic & Bern. Shirley was such a delight to stay in, the pictures don't do the hut nor the location justice. We had a great walk to Wetton and had a few pints and a meal at Ye Old Royal Oak - highly recommend for good ales and decent pub food!  "

Hannah and Ben- October 2017
“ Bern and Nic were very welcoming and informative when we arrived! The shepherds hut ‘Doris’, was lovely, clean and cosy! We were provided a starter pack for the fire which was great for the two nights we stayed, we also enjoyed the brownies and eggs Bern and Nic had left for us in the hut! Thank you for having us!  "

Barbara and Hereward - October 2017

“ Out stay was absolutely perfect in Dori's! We loved the calmness, the animals around, the warm welcome, the fresh eggs and the special experience! Would definitely recommend to anyone wishing to spend a few days outside of a big city to refresh, clean and take a break :) Barbara  "

Ali and Mark - October 2017

“ Beautiful accommodation in a beautiful part of the world a great place to get away from everything and chill.  "

Ruth and Marcus - September 2017

“We have just returned from a fantastic weekend staying in Bern and Nic’s shepherd hut. I can truly say we enjoyed every moment from the second we arrived. Bern and Nic were on hand when we arrived to give us the information we required. We were then left to get on with our stay but knowing that if we needed any help or information Bern and Nic would be on hand. The shepherd hut was amazing – we stayed in Shirley. It had everything we needed and was very private. The eggs and cakes that were left for our arrival were very tasty indeed. There was wood provided for the fire – which kept the hut very warm. We ventured out for a walk to the pub – which was great fun and we certainly enjoyed the hospitality of The Red Lion in Waterfall – do remember to take a touch if you venture back in the dark – we forgot to take the touches that were provided but we made it back safely. On our last day we had the pleasure of meeting Bern and Nic’s horses and miniature sheep – I have never met sheep so friendly. All in all we had a great weekend getting away from modern life – we will definitely return."

Chelsea - September 2017
“ (We loved) the setting and how peaceful it is.  Just all so lovely "

Nicola and Andrew - September 2017

“We spent two nights in ‘Doris’ and had a really wonderful time. The location is perfect, in the middle of nowhere, but that is just what we wanted. The finish of the shepherd’s hut was fantastic, and had everything you need. The bed was comfortable and all the linen was great quality (Zara home and John Lewis!!). The facilities in the barn were brilliant too. We will definitely return in the future and would recommend to anyone looking for a cosy night away in the peak district. "

Eve - September 2017

“Hi Bern I had such a lovely time last weekend. I love the shepherds Hut and it gave me the space I needed ! I'll be back again Thank you so much Eve "

Mariusz and Anya - September 2017

“ A quiet, secluded, romantic spot with great views. There are only two huts on site, so no crowds or noise. The accommodation was very comfortable, with pretty much everything you could need. There's a toilet, a wood burning stove and a gas cooker. Tea, coffee (both instant and ground!), sugar, utensils, towels, firewood etc are all provided. Easy access to most of the Peaks, with Buxton, Bakewell, Matlock 25 mins, and Castleton around 35 mins drive away. Plenty to see and do; we stayed for 2 nights, which was nowhere enough! Very friendly hosts - would definitely visit again! "

Emma and Family - August 2017

“ If you want to get away from it all and really switch off, then go here! The Shepherds Hut is kitted out really well and is so cozy once the log burner is lit. The outside space is private and the bbq was great! We had loads of fun just 'being'.....We fed the sheep, chased the chickens, stroked the horses, read and collected wood....fab! The location is beautiful with a great cycle path - the Manifold Way. Word of warning........take plenty of food as not all the local pubs serve food in the evenings as it's such a chilled out place! No complaints though as its all part of the experience.. Thank you both and see you again next year! "

Jim and Lindsey - August 2017

“ The hut , very lovely and well stocked.  Cannot fault it in any way.  The surrounding countryside is beautiful.  Thank you for being so friendly.  Hope to come again to this special place."

Lynn and Family - August 2017

“ Lovely hut, beautifully presented!  Great shower room facilities and absolutely love the fact that our daughter was able to interact with the sheep - thank you!  We had a fantastic time and would recommend the hut.  Five stars ***** and lovely owners!"

Alison - August 2017

“ Had a wonderful stay here in Shirley. All that was provided by Nic and Bern brought me comfort, rest, peace and joy. I had planned to do some sightseeing around the area however I was fortunate to have the field to myself and stayed on site for the duration of my stay. It felt like a real treat, beautiful views, incredibly peaceful, and comfortable. Good location. The cleanliness was to a very high standard. I will definitely return. ”
